“London Underground – undergoes deep clean”.
Corona virus-inspired stencils on London Underground, tube train feature rats with surgical face masks and hand sanitizer.

Banksy’s Rats with Masks.

Banksy paints a rat sneezing, while another struggles to get a mask on, and at the end of the clip, he sprays the words “I get lockdown, but I get up again”, from Chumbawamba’s 1997 hit Tubthumping. Wait for it… end scene.

In the video, Banksy is seen entering an underground London tube train carriage while dressed as a member of the cleanup crew before stenciling the rats with masks. They are depicted wearing the masks as parachutes and dispensing hand sanitizer.

Face coverings became a requirement for public transport in England on June 15th, 2020. Banksy has since, entered the mask debate with his locked-down message. Prior to the London Underground clean up, the artist posted five images on Instagram, saying ‘my wife hates it when I work from home’.

I guess the underlying question we are all asking ourselves is… will we get up again?  Looking forward to another anonymous evening with Banksy and his iconic rat pack. If you don’t mask – you don’t get.
